A family in Nyeri has breathed a sigh of relief after being reunited with their 14-year-old daughter following a six-month search.

Sandra (not her real name) went missing in November 2025 after leaving her grandmother’s house in Kiganjo, where she had gone for a short visit.
His overjoyed grandmother, Grace Juma, hugged him and celebrated his return, expressing gratitude for his safety.
He explained that they had an argument with his grandson, after which the girl disappeared shortly after.
“He was here with me for the holidays, then he disappeared. We’ve been looking for him since November. He’s bothered us a lot,” said Grace.

Narrating her experience after running away from home, Sandra said she spent the first night in a market stall before walking about nine kilometers the next day from Kiganjo to Marua junction.
“I met a man with a truck who gave me a lift to Murang’a, where I stayed for a month before traveling back to Nairobi, where a woman picked me up before taking me to another man,” he said.
The woman later took the 14-year-old girl to a children’s shelter in Zimmerman, using a false name the entire time.
Why did the Nyeri girl run away from home?
Sandra explained that she left home because of her stepfather, who she claimed was persecuting her.
She claimed that the man beat her several times, did not meet her basic needs, and always put her brothers before her.
“He said he hates me and that I’m not his child. I didn’t like the way he was treating me,” said Sandra.
Grace expressed disappointment, noting that her grandson’s stepfather could only say that he was not ready to raise her.
“He would just return this girl to me. No one forced him to raise her. I want to thank everyone who helped us find her in any way,” said Grace.
Sandra was finally found after the news of her disappearance was aired. A good person who recognized him informed the officers at the Police Station Kasaraniwho helped bring him back to his mother.

“I am happy to see my brothers and to be with my family. I am even ready to go back to school,” said Sandra.
