Leaders within the Linda Mwananchi faction of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have announced a major three-day protest schedule set for June 2026. Speaking during a church service at PAG Kivumbini in Nakuru County, Siaya Governor James Orengo revealed that the demonstrations will take place on June 24, 25, and 26. These dates purposely align with the anniversary of the 2024 Gen Z-led protests that reshaped the country’s political landscape.
Orengo urged supporters to honor the memory of the young protesters who lost their lives by participating in the upcoming action.
“June 25 is coming, and we all remember Gen Zs lost lives for this country. So as Linda Mwananchi, we are asking you on June 24, 25 and 26 to make this country ungovernable. And that has happened before,” he told the congregation.
The faction leaders expressed a firm commitment to their cause, which they describe as a necessary struggle for national liberation. Orengo dismissed the possibility of retreating due to state pressure or the threat of arrest.
“We do not fear any prison, we do not fear death. We do not fear anything but fear itself,” he declared.
A prominent group of elected leaders accompanied the governor to the service, including Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, and Saboti MP Caleb Amisi.
Senator Sifuna explained that the group’s visit to Nakuru serves a specific purpose: to promote governance reforms and champion the protection of civil liberties. He argued that Kenyans deserve a leadership that prioritizes human rights over mere infrastructure projects.
“Many are asking what we are doing in Nakuru. We have a message for the people here that this country can have good leadership, one that respects human rights,” Sifuna said. “We want Kenyans to live in an environment free of corruption. You cannot tell us you are building roads when human rights are abused every day and people are being killed.”
He further declared that the movement remains unstoppable in its quest to transform the nation, regardless of the risks involved. “We just want to liberate this country, and nobody will stop us even if we are thrown in a den of lions,” he added.
Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi also took the podium to reject claims of internal friction within the faction. He suggested that external forces are attempting to create ethnic divisions to weaken their collective resolve.
“I will not be cowed. We will not be intimidated as Linda Mwananchi,” Osotsi stated. “They attacked me in Kisumu to cause bad blood between Luos and Luhyas so that our movement collapses. We are steadfast, and we will fight for the final and most important liberation in this country, and nobody will stand in our way.”
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino also rallied the supporters, framing the Linda Mwananchi team as the necessary catalysts for national change. He pointed specifically to Governor James Orengo as a foundational leader for their cause.
“As Linda Mwananchi, we will liberate this country, and the people who will do that are members of this team. People like Governor James Orengo – he is the source of our wisdom,” Owino stated.
The legislator shifted focus to the plight of the youth, demanding that the government provide meaningful employment rather than exploiting vulnerable young people for political gain. He condemned the practice of hiring the youth to orchestrate violence, insisting on a shift toward dignity and proper jobs.
“Goons’ nonsense must end. Goons should be given proper jobs. The government should stop hiring young people as goons,” he said. Owino concluded by confirming that the faction intends to maintain its momentum with upcoming engagements scheduled for Kisumu.
