Speaking in Banissa, Mandera county, during a development visit on Saturday, April 18, Ruto wondered why the opposition team has been “shouting” and “insulting” him without offering any solution to the challenges affecting the country.

He claimed that scolding and complaining in public are symptoms of illness, adding that his critics have shown such symptoms and may need treatment.

“They threaten people, thinking that they can threaten even the president. I think they are not in a good place. When you see someone shouting a lot, insulting people and showing arrogance, that person is sick and needs help. We will give them SHA so that they can get treatment,” said Ruto.

The country’s leader opposed the United Opposition led by a former deputy Rigathi Gachagua and Kalonzo Musyoka to come up with an agenda to sell to Kenyans instead of insulting him.

“They have no plan, no agenda, and no vision. Their main agenda is insults. I want to ask them to find an agenda to tell Kenyans. Insults, threats, pride and chest beating will not get you anywhere,” said the president.

Ruto appeared to respond to Gachagua’s recent threats to do so protest national if the government does not reduce the price of oil further.

Gachagua accused Ruto of taking advantage of the oil crisis through a government-to-government agreement passed in April 2023 to reduce the impact of high import costs.

“We are asking the president to reduce the price of oil further, otherwise we will call a big action within seven days,” said the leader of the DCP party.

Part of the opposition supporters have suggested starting the protest on Tuesday, April 21.

However, Nairobi County Police Commander Issa Mohamud has already declared the planned protest illegal and warned Kenyans against participating.

Mohamud said the protest violates the guidelines of the Public Order Act, so no one will be allowed to take to the streets on Tuesday.

“We have not received any information so far, and that makes the planned demonstration illegal. We will take appropriate measures against those who will participate in the illegal demonstration,” said the police commander.

Deputy President Kithur Kindiki he dismissed the protest, saying it would not solve the problem.

Speaking in Kilifi on Friday, April 17, Kindiki accused Gachagua and his team of using the oil crisis for political purposes.

He defended the government, saying that the oil shortage was an international issue caused by the ongoing war between the United States and Israel and Iran.

“The solution to the oil crisis is not the basic issue that the fraudsters are planning. The solution is the steps that President William Ruto is taking to protect Kenyans. This is an international problem that should not be politicized,” said Kindiki.
