Madowo was promoted to the role of International Correspondent at CNN in 2021, just two months after joining the network.

Originally hired as a Nairobi-based correspondent, his new position has allowed him to cover major global stories beyond the African continent.

What did Larry Madowo want to become?

The rapid career milestone sparked widespread celebration among his fans, with many jokingly attributing his consistent success to his “God working overtime.”

While on a show on CNN’s The Story Is with Elex Michaelson, Larry confessed that he hoped to be a priest after joining a mini seminary high school.

“I did try to become a priest, but that did not work out. When I went to the Catholic seminary, which is basically high school, essentially led by priests, we used to be told that many are called but few are chosen. So I guess I was not chosen, which is why I do this now. My backup option was CNN. So far so good, but if the Pope calls me, I would go back,” he said.

He added how his show, African Voice, helps spotlight Africans who are making an impact and doing great things globally.
