The MP urged them to stop interfering in the affairs of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) amid reports of increasing political tension within the wider government.

Why did Oscar Sudi criticize his UDA colleagues?

Speaking on Friday, April 17, during a campaign to empower women and youth groups in Rongai Sub-County in Salgaa Town, Sudi warned the leaders of UDA against what he called excessive talk and arrogance.

His remarks come at a time when cracks seem to be emerging within the cooperation system that united UDA, ODM and other parties.

Sudi, who described himself as one of the founding members of the UDA along with people such as the governor of Nakuru Susan Kihika and Sam Mburu, insisted that leaders within the union understand their common political journey and direction.

“As a UDA party, today UDA, ODM and many others are part of a wider arrangement. I also want to stand here, as the founder of UDA along with many others such as Susan Kihika, Sam Mburu and others, and say that we, as UDA and ODM within the broader government, know where we came from and where we are going,” he said.

Sudi warned UDA members against meddling in ODM’s internal affairs, stressing that each party should be allowed to organize itself freely within the organisation.

“I want to tell my colleagues in the UDA who talk a lot: let the ODM members organize their houses. We are all one. We agreed that we are broad. I want to tell those in the UDA party, without naming names, stop being arrogant and talking too much; you are talking too much,” the Member of Parliament said.

His comments, while dismissing claims of lack of unity, indicate internal tension within the coalition, especially following recent developments within ODM.

What did Sudi say about the alleged internal conflicts in the union?

He emphasized that if issues arise between the two parties, the leaders will cooperate directly and find a solution without external pressure.

The member of parliament said that the working system for the two parties was very clear and everyone knows and understands what is expected of them.

“Like UDA and ODM, if we have a problem as leaders, we will sit together and solve it. The leaders will sit and reach an agreement. Stop interfering in ODM’s affairs. ODM joined a broad plan, and we said we know where we came from, where we are going, and where we will put the brakes. Isn’t that right, citizens?” Sudi said.

Did the UDA-ODM talks break down?

The remarks come against the background of an allegedly important meeting with ODM’s main decision-making body, which is reportedly determined to stop the coalition talks with the President’s UDA William Ruto.

The meeting, chaired by party leader Siaya senator Oburu Oginga, is said to have been tense, with senior officials expressing dismay at what they saw as efforts to undermine the party.

ODM leaders raised concerns about public statements from some UDA officials, accusing them of fomenting division and causing anxiety among party members.

The party later announced that it would prioritize strengthening its internal structures and spreading its agenda before participating in any coalition talks ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The Central Management Committee also instructed party members to stop campaigning for Ruto’s re-election until their issues are addressed.

At the heart of the conflict is disagreement over the allocation of political territories and power-sharing arrangements, including the position of the vice president.
