Anita was stabbed to death by her husband who is an officer of the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF), Captain Edward Muthomi, in St Mary’s area, Nakuru County.
The 29-year-old mother was stabbed after an argument with her husband. Anita was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead a few minutes after arriving at the hospital. Muthomi was later arrested and is being held in a police cell.
According to the family, Anita and Muthomi had been involved in a long-term conflict after efforts to resolve their issues and live in peace failed. Anita had planned to divorce her husband on Saturday, the 18th and had invited her parents to her home. Speaking to journalists, the heartbroken mother of the deceased revealed that her daughter had reported that Muthomi had threatened her several times, and despite reporting to the police, nothing was done.
“Edwin used to threaten Anita. Many times he called me saying he had threatened to kill her. What I am asking is for the government to follow up on this case and ensure that justice is done. What he did to us is not something that will go away. It has hurt us forever,” Serah Mugweru shared while shedding tears.
What kind of person was Anita Mugweru?
Dave Sirikal, Anita’s college roommate, wrote an emotional tribute, remembering her as a great friend.
He shared photos that he and Anita took with their classmates in 2015 when they were still studying at Egerton University, reminiscing about their good old days.

Dear Anita Mugweru, you who deserve the description of a woman of the people, you did not deserve to die like that, you, who in your encouraging smile we saw grace, value and friendship full of soft voice. I have lost my classmate, my coursemate, one of my friends a few of whom we have kept in memory since 2015. Your daughter will continue your legacy, and we promise to follow justice to its logical end. You have died a painful death, my friend😭. Continue well, ok😭😭. Dear Anita Mugweru, you who befittingly suited the description of a woman of the people, you did not deserve to die that way, you, in whose inspiring smile we saw grace, value and friendship packed in such a soft voice. At Egerton you epitomized beauty and were an embodiment of class and colour, Nyambura I will speak of you with haunts of glow for our friendship was well clothed in respect and understanding. I have lost a classmate, course mate, one of the few friends whom we have kept in tabs since 2015. Another friend of Anita’s, identified as Sijeny, shared a photo of them together, accompanied by the touching message below:

What were Anita Mugweru’s last words?
In another story, Anita’s housekeeper told how Muthomi killed his wife. He claimed Muthomi accused Anita of being unfaithful before the argument between the two.
The shocked housekeeper recalled how the captain of the KDF when he entered the kitchen and took a knife before stabbing Anita.
He narrated how his boss left home in pain, trying to call for help, but only one came out to help him while others watched from their balconies. The housekeeper told how they drove a boda boda and took her to the hospital, but to luck unfortunately, he died just a few minutes after arriving.
