Nakuru girl who killed child in church says she didn’t recognize herself during the incident: “Something got into me”

Liz Njeri was arrested, convicted, and imprisoned for the murder of three-year-old Margaret, whom she killed in June 2025.

Speaking on the Simon Kibe channel, Liz, who committed the crime while still a Form Four student, said the service was going on when she met little Margaret outside the church building.

“I was taking care of my other two younger brothers, who were in the church. Outside the church, I met Margaret, my neighbor’s child. I called her and asked her to follow me to the back of the church building. She had a scarf. I used the opportunity to harm her by using that scarf. I did not expect that she would die,” the prisoner said.

He said he was not himself when he killed the little girl, and he does not remember what happened to him.

“He fell to the ground, but he died while being taken to the hospital. I don’t know what happened to me because I love children. I don’t know what happened to me. I didn’t think he would die,” he stressed.

How many years was Njeri imprisoned? The person found guilty of murder noted that after the incident, he returned home, before being arrested by the authorities a few hours later.

“At six in the evening, the police officers came to my house to arrest me because the nearby CCTV cameras showed me with a child. My mother was shocked when she found out about what I did, because I did not tell her anything. I told the police officers that I was not myself because I did not know why I did it,” Liz said.

He was found guilty of killing the girl and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The prisoner said that life in prison is difficult, and he is also sad that his future seems lost, as he will be released from prison in 2039 at the age of 31.

He took the KCSE exam while in prison and is now learning new skills while in prison.

Liz also apologized to the victim’s family, asking them to support her request for a reduced sentence.

“I know what I did was very bad, please forgive me,” he said.

Her mother remembered that while the service was going on, little Margaret Wanjiru went out to play, and when she went to check on her, she did not find her.
