Why has Ida Odinga been silent about political arrangements?
According to her, she withdrew from the public limelight to mourn the death of her husband, Raila Odingawho has been a mainstay in Kenyan politics for the past 30 years.
Ida explained that the mourning period was important for her well-being, describing it as necessary and non-negotiable.

“Well, as you said, I have been silent for a while. Of course, when I lost my husband, Mr. Raila Odinga, I was still in a state of mourning. And that was very important to me. And therefore, I could not go out in public and participate in the political arrangements we are talking about,” he said.
He made the statement on Tuesday, April 14, at a time when the political environment in Kenya is changing, with preparations already underway for the 2027 General Election.
The Odinga family, which has long been a dominant force in the country’s politics, is once again at the center of the talks.
Is Ida Odinga interested in entering politics?
In addition to responding to her silence, Ida used the opportunity to clearly and deliberately draw a line between herself and the world of politics that has surrounded her for a long time.
Despite being the widow of one of the most prominent politicians in Kenya and the mother of Winnie Odingawho has been climbing the ladder rapidly within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Ida was very clear about her position.
He explained that he has always been interested in the industrial side of life, unlike his political family, adding that he is not a politician.
“Personally, I am not a politician. And I hope you know that. My husband was. My daughter is. My brother-in-law is. The people around me are. But I am an industrial expert. I am not a politician,” Ida added.
