What did Sakaja say about tearing down the wall of the Palace?

Sakaja described the move as a good example of leadership and compliance with environmental laws, noting that even the highest office accepted the order.

“I want to thank the president. He is the main planner here and he has led by example. If this wall in the White House can be demolished, then every other building along the land along the river must also be removed,” he said.

The project is backed by more than KSh 50 billion in funding and is expected to regenerate large parts of Nairobi.

It includes efforts to clean up rivers, the construction of pedestrian and bicycle paths, and the creation of public recreational spaces designed to improve mobility and urban life.

Authorities said the new infrastructure would connect different parts of the city through developing river corridors, allowing residents to move more freely between areas such as Eastleigh and Westlands using walking and cycling routes. The corridors will also include lighting and security features to enhance safety.

Details of the KSh 50 billion Nairobi river restoration plan

The plan mainly covers the redevelopment of key urban areas, including the construction of the modern Gikomba Market and the improvement of busy areas such as the Globe Roundabout.

Public participation meetings are ongoing in the affected neighbourhoods, particularly Westlands, to ensure residents are informed and involved in the process.

The officials also mentioned previous developments along the Kibagare River near Westgate, where reclaimed land has already been turned into a public park. The success serves as a model for other areas targeted for restoration.

While urging compliance with demolition notices, Sakaja warned against political misinformation and urged residents to support the long-term vision of the plan.

He also warned against unsafe removal from demolished structures, stressing the need for safety during the process.

He added that renovation works are also underway at the Nairobi Dam, as well as extensive improvements to lighting, roads, and public infrastructure across the city.

Did Ruto confirm that the White House wall will be demolished?

A few days ago, President William Ruto he confirmed that part of the side wall of the Palace will be demolished after it was found that it was built on protected land by the river.

Speaking during his speech to the Nairobi County Assembly, he said the inspection of many organizations has revealed the encroachment and issued a notice that requires compliance with environmental laws.
