Apondi disappeared on April 5, leaving his family in deep worry after receiving a text message from his phone.

Her ex-boyfriend, Steven Coleman Okoth, has been arrested as the main suspect in her brutal murder.

Speaking at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, where her body is kept, Apondi’s mother, Alice Atieno, tearfully recounted how she received the bad news of her daughter’s death.

Atieno said he had traveled to Nairobi on personal business and had not yet spoken to his daughter when he found out about her disappearance.

“My heart is broken. I was only told that he is not there. I still do not understand what happened to my child,” he said.

Apondi’s older sister, Doreen Achieng’, recalled their close relationship, sharing how they shared secrets and talked every day.

According to him, the deceased had previously expressed concern about the relationship, saying he did not believe it was built on true love.

He had advised her to leave if she no longer felt safe, not thinking that the situation would eventually cost her her life.

Achieng’ said he became worried after receiving the disturbing messages and immediately tried to call him, but his calls were not answered.

In those messages, Apondi explained what happened to him, leaving his sister very confused and shocked. She immediately left everything and ran to Apondi’s house, accompanied by her husband.

However, when they arrived, they found the door locked. They asked the neighbors about his whereabouts, and they confirmed that he was at home that Sunday but later left.

“I was worried. He was crying in those messages, explaining what happened to him. Previously, he had told me that his ex-boyfriend was threatening his life after the breakup. I told him I didn’t think he would harm him, for me, those were meaningless threats,” said the sad sister.

Apondi’s family described her as a soft-spoken young woman who had a kind heart and always tried to do good for others.

In related news, TUKO.co.ke reported that Okoth allegedly narrated how he convinced Apondi to leave his house until his death.

He reportedly told police that he had two accomplices who lied to the young woman, telling her that they were taking her to a man who would give her a business relationship.

It is alleged that the suspect of murder shared the information after a week of interview and led them until he committed the brutal act.
