Argentina has started a new trial to determine who was responsible for the death of soccer star Diego Armando Maradona, six years after his death.

The trial seeks to determine whether members of the medical team who attended to the legend in his final days were negligent, leading to his premature death.
What happened to Maradona?
Maradona died on November 25, 2020, after suffering a heart attack, shocking fans around the world. His sudden death caused great concern about the care he was receiving at the time.
The case, which is being held at the San Isidro Criminal Court No. 7, is classified as “premeditated murder,” a charge indicating that the accused may have acted regardless of the possible consequences of death.

At the time of his death, Maradona was battling many health problems and had recently undergone brain surgery.
Argentina’s president at the time, Alberto Fernandez, declared three days of national mourning.
“Thank you for being there, Diego. We will remember you for the rest of our lives,” he said.
Maradona started his career with Argentinos Juniors. He went on to represent Argentina in four World Cups, scoring 34 goals, including the famous “Hand of God” goal against England in 1986.
Who are the defendants?
Seven medical professionals are facing charges over the soccer star’s death. They include psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, neurologist Leopoldo Luque, psychologist Carlos Ángel Díaz, doctor Nancy Edith Forlini, nurse Ricardo Almirón, head nurse Mariano Ariel Perroni, and doctor Pedro Pablo Di Spagna.
If convicted, they face eight to 25 years in prison.
