KeNHA Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli recently inspected the progress of the Gitaru Interchange, where crews are currently laying bitumen. The project is nearing its final stages, with the interchange itself reaching 90 per cent completion and the overall development standing at 85 per cent.
While the main interchange is almost finished, the Director General noted that teams are still working on several critical sections. These include the service road, the Muhuri and Kamandura Interchanges, and essential drainage infrastructure across the site.
Throughout the inspection, Kimeli prioritized adherence to strict quality standards, safety protocols, and the remaining project timelines. He praised the project team for their steady advancement, recognizing the significant progress made on these key infrastructure components.
He urged the team to maintain their current pace to ensure they deliver the project within the established schedule.
“Maintain momentum toward timely completion,” he said, underscoring the necessity of consistent execution.
Kimeli pointed to the project’s significance, describing it as a critical solution to the long-standing transport hurdles along the corridor. He noted that once finished, the interchange will serve as a vital link to improve traffic flow, strengthen regional connectivity, and finally ease the persistent congestion in the area.
The completion of the Gitaru Interchange project promises to transform travel for motorists by streamlining traffic flow through this heavily used corridor. By eliminating bottlenecks, the new infrastructure will significantly reduce travel times and improve the overall commuting experience.
To ensure these benefits reach the public as soon as possible, KeNHA remains on-site to oversee every phase of the remaining work. The authority is maintaining a firm focus on compliance with engineering standards while pushing the contractors to meet the final delivery deadlines.
