A cloud of sadness has engulfed a family in Malava, the county of kissfollowing the mysterious death of their son, Edwin Njuguna Ngugi, away from home.

Ngugi, a truck driver, was killed in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and his body was left to rot for days without his family being notified by any official authority.
The young man was driving his truck from Mombasa to DRC when his phone started ringing on April 3 at 8:22 p.m.

His loving mother, Rose Ngugi, recalled their last conversation, saying her son had called to complain that the truck had broken down in a dangerous area.
“We came to know about his death through the photo we used of him lying on the ground. He had been stabbed and left to die. They even shot him, and there were ants in his body,” said a relative.
The family also shared his last conversation with his cousin, where he said the truck had broken down in Bunia, DRC, and the consignee had not arrived.
“I am in serious trouble. The road here is bad, and the wheels of the truck were punctured. Right now, I am being protected by some soldiers. Yesterday, I was almost attacked by men with knives, but fortunately the army officers were nearby and have been protecting me,” Edwin said in a message to his cousin.

In his sad phone call, Ngugi said the owner of the goods had promised to send another truck to unload the goods, but that has not happened yet.
Sadly, the soldiers allegedly took his money, promising to protect him while he waited for the owner of the luggage to arrive. Instead, they abandoned him, leaving him in the hands of the rebels.
It is reported that the insurgents killed him, looted the truck, and dumped his body in the forest.

A few days later, fellow Kenyan truck drivers discovered the trailer and his body in a foreign country. They shared videos and photos in a WhatsApp group in the hope of tracking down his family.
“The driver of this truck is said to have been killed and has been lying here for the past three days,” said one of the drivers who found the vehicle and his body.
This is how his family got the news of his death, ten days after his brutal murder. His body was later taken to the Bunia Hospital mortuary.
Now, his heartbroken family is seeking help to bring his body home for burial, while they are asking the government to intervene.
“My son is in Congo, and the soldiers are asking me to let them bury him there. But I don’t want him to be buried far from home,” said Rose.
The grieving mother also slammed the company her son was working for, accusing it of keeping quiet about the matter.
“If he is a compassionate person, he should help bring my son’s body home,” he added.
