Vihiga County — Sadness has spread in the town of Mbale following the arrest of a man suspected of throwing his two-month-old baby into River Ehedwe.

The police have confirmed that the suspect is being detained at the Mbale Police Station while the investigation into the circumstances of the incident continues.

The tragic event has shaken the local community, leaving residents in shock, disbelief, and many unanswered questions.

According to journalist Bruce Kanzika, the man had separated from the child’s mother and had previously asked for a chance to see the child.

It is alleged that he went to a rented house in Shalom area in Mbale, where the mother was living, and took the child before the incident happened.

What happened next has shocked many. Authorities say the man is suspected of going to River Ehedwe where he allegedly dumped the child.

The cause of the incident is still unknown, while investigators are trying to determine the events that preceded the tragedy.

Emergency teams and residents spent hours searching the river for the child’s body. Despite great efforts throughout the day, no results were found, which added to the pain for those following the case.

In another move that added to the controversy, the police have also detained the child’s mother.

Authorities have not released details about the reasons for his arrest, but have confirmed that both parents are being held pending an investigation.
