According to Anita’s housekeeper, the couple was arguing in the bedroom, and at one point the captain headed to the kitchen with some intention.

“He entered the kitchen and started walking around, then I realized that he had taken a knife. Then he went to the living room, and I found that he was on top of Anita with a knife. I pulled him from Anita, and he ran while trying to pull the knife from his body. He tried to walk and reached the gate; his son was following him, and he started calling the neighbors,” said the housekeeper.

“The neighbor who was called by the child was the only one who came to help us; others were just standing on the porch watching. No one moved even a step. Mama Milan was the only one who came to help, we put her in a bodaboda and took her to the Nairobi Women’s Hospital,” he added.

“I called his people, and they started to inform other relatives. We called his driver, and he told us that he had already died.”

How did Kenyans respond to the incident?

Mildred Mabera: “Sometimes working girls go through a lot but their employers look down on them. Now you see the only person who helped was a housekeeper – no brothers, no neighbors, just a housekeeper. Respect for housekeepers.”
