On Monday, March 2, Ruto and Sakaja visited the newly expanded Mutuini Hospital in South Dagoretti, confirming that the 400 bed Level 5 facility will be officially opened in April.

The hospital’s bed capacity has increased tenfold from 40 to 400 beds and now has an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a High Dependency Unit (HDU), expanded outpatient services and specialized clinics designed to bring high-quality healthcare closer to residents.

In his speech, the president announced that the national government will provide the center with modern medical equipment worth Sh400 million to ensure it is fully operational from day one.

He noted that patients registered under the Community Health Authority (SHA) will receive services free of charge.

The new hospital is expected to significantly reduce congestion at Mbagathi Hospital, Kikuyu Level 4 Hospital, Mother Lucy Kibaki Hospital and Pumwani Maternity Hospital, which have long struggled with the increasing number of patients.

“We committed to upgrading Dagoretti Level IV Sub-County Hospital in Mutuini, Nairobi. We are happy, one year later, that the medical facility is nearing completion. We will complete and equip the 400-bed facility, and hand it over next month to assure the people of Dagoretti South of easily accessible, quality and affordable medical care,” Ruto said.

On his part, Sakaja described the project as the fulfillment of their joint commitment under the “Ruto-Sakaja agreement” on service delivery.

“We promised that we will complete the construction of the Mutuini Hospital, and today I want to report that next month we will open it,” Sakaja said, stressing that the goal is not only to order buildings, but to ensure that they are fully equipped and staffed to serve the people effectively.

In addition to health care, the leaders also commissioned a new workshop building completed at the PC Kinyanjui Vocational Training Institute, increasing technical and vocational education in the city.

The country’s leader announced an additional investment of KSh 250 million to build hostels that will accommodate 580 students. “Education is the best way to balance. We promised this workshop unit a few months ago, and today we are commissioning it,” he said, adding that expanding skills training is important in empowering the youth of Nairobi.

In the education sector, the two also commissioned and handed over 17 new classrooms, including a fee unit in the Primary School of Kawangware.

Ruto revealed that 800 classrooms have been built in Nairobi in the past year and that 1,000 teachers have been employed across the city to enhance learning outcomes.

The development tour highlighted the ongoing improvement of the market and the improvement of infrastructure under a comprehensive investment framework of KSh 80 billion targeting roads, drainage, water supply, sanitation, street lighting and modern business areas.

The Nairobi governor said the partnership agreement between the national and county governments, supported by public participation, was designed to expedite long-delayed projects and improve service delivery in the capital.
