Speaking at Nteere Park in Meru Town on Tuesday, March 3, the residents, led by Joseph Ringera, said they were forced to address President Ruto directly after seeing what they described as a growing gap between what leaders report to the national government and the reality.
Why did the people of Meru accuse the MPs of lying to Ruto?
The residents pointed out that several important development projects in the county have stopped, but the legislators allegedly failed to present the situation honestly to the president.
They said this has led to the continuation of the launch of new projects, while others have not been completed.
“We are sending our message to President Ruto that our leaders are lying to him and our MPs have failed to tell him that no work is being done here. Since the president wants to start new projects, let him complete the ones that have stopped, such as the completion of the Court of Appeal,” said Ringera.
The residents further accused the members of parliament from the area for turning the thoughts of the Deputy President Kithur Kindiki on other plans while ignoring important projects that have not yet been completed.
They claimed that MPs have been spending most of their time accompanying the deputy president during public visits and celebrations instead of pushing for the completion of development projects in Meru.
“The people we elected are busy getting into cars so they can follow our leaders wherever they go to applaud and tell us ‘two terms’ but nothing is happening in Meru,” said Ringera.
Does Meru support Ruto’s bid for re-election?
Furthermore, residents emphasized that Meru’s political support in the future will depend on whether the government fulfills the promises made to the people. They claimed that the debate on whether the residents will support the movement for one or two terms will be decided by whether the development projects started in the county have been completed.

Residents emphasized that legislators may lose public support if they fail to comply with their legal responsibilities and development priorities in the county.
They pointed out that MPs should give priority to developing arguments and policies in Parliament that can stimulate development in Meru instead of spending a lot of time in political gatherings and village meetings.
“We are telling them to wake up, and if they don’t listen to what we say, 2027 is not far and they will all go home,” said another resident.
Maigalo Balozi, another resident, raised concerns about recent statements made by former senator Mithika Linturi, who claimed that Meru leaders contributed KSh 100 million to facilitate the removal of the former Meru governor. Kawira Mwangaza from the office.
“We are shocked to hear that MPs met in one of the leader’s buildings and donated KSh 100 million so that the former Governor Kawira Mwangaza was expelled from office,” said Maigalo.
Which party will Linturi use to compete for the Meru governor seat?
Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported that former Meru senator Mithika Linturi had announced her intention to contest for the governorship of Meru in 2027.
Linturi, who was previously an ally of President Ruto, said he will contest the seat on the ticket of the Democratic Congress Party (DCP).
He is expected to face the former governor Peter MunyaSenator Kathuri Murungi, and the current county boss, Isaac Mutuma.
