Mercy Awuor is currently receiving treatment for serious injuries at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral and Training Hospital (JOOTRH) after sustaining burns on 45 percent of her body due to an acid attack.

The woman suffered burns on various parts of her body, including her neck, chest and face.

Moreover, the attack happened after he allegedly received threats from one of his relatives before the brutal incident.

What happened to Mercy Awuor? Speaking from her hospital bed, the 34-year-old woman recounted the horrific incident, saying she was on her way home after a long day at work.

“I had just left a short distance from my workplace when I saw two men on a boda boda. They were heading in the direction I came from and suddenly they poured something on me. I thought it was water,” he said.

Awuor said he never thought it was acid that was poured on him until he started feeling severe itching all over his body.

The incident has left many people asking questions, due to the nature of the attack.

Many have expressed concern about the increasing incidence of acid attacks and violence, calling on the relevant authorities to take immediate action.

While the 34-year-old woman continues to receive treatment at JOOTRH, the police have launched an investigation to find the perpetrators and anyone involved in the attack so that they can be brought to justice.
