This Kiswahili magazine reported on the President’s statement William Ruto about the high price of oil in the country.

Speaking at a church service in Karen on Sunday, April 19, the president said that the recent increase in oil prices is in line with Kenya’s status as a low and middle income country (LMIC).

In his speech, Ruto explained that the high price of oil in Kenya compared to the East African Community is due to its more developed economy.

“I know many people in Kenya continue to ask why sometimes oil prices are different in Kenya compared to our neighbors. Kenya is a middle-income country. Our neighbors are least developed countries. There is a big difference. If you want to compare Kenya fairly with others, compare Kenya with other middle-income countries,”

This newspaper reported on the announcement by leaders associated with Linda Mwananchi’s group within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) that they will protest of three days in June to protest bad governance.

Governor of Siaya James Orengowho is an important leader in the group, said they plan to hold a protest from June 24 to 26 to coincide with the anniversary of the anti-government protests led by Gen Z in June 2024.

“We are tired of bad governance. On June 24, 25 and 26 we will hold a series of protests that will make this country ungovernable. This has happened before, and we want it to happen again. I don’t see President William Ruto coming in August 2027. We want this regime to end now,” said Orengo.

The critical governor said Linda Mwananchi’s group is not afraid of death and is determined to liberate the country from Ruto’s bad leadership.

“We are not afraid of prison. We are not afraid of death or fear itself. The time has come. The time to liberate this country is now,” he said.

ODM leader Oburu Oginga has tried to reduce the tension within his alliance, confirming the party’s determination to continue with the alliance agreement with the UDA.

Despite the recent public disagreement, Oburu clarified on Saturday, April 18, that ODM still aims to continue coalition talks with UDA.

The Siaya senator denied claims that ODM has abandoned negotiations, explaining that official negotiations with UDA have not yet started, while the party is forming a technical team to lead the process.

“We as ODM are not interested in other parties; we do not discuss with them. We are particularly interested in UDA, with whom we will discuss,” said Oburu.

He added that he has a good relationship with President William Ruto, who is the leader of the UDA, but he asked him to control some of his party officials whom he accused of causing division in the wider organization of the union.
