During an interview on Hot 96 FM, the Siaya senator claimed that his late brother was unhappy with Sifuna several months before he died when he was in India.
Oburu attacked the controversial secretary general for allegedly hiring thugs to embarrass his late brother during the ODM delegation meeting held in Kakamega.
According to Oburu, Sifuna organized thugs to shout his name and the slogan “one term” in front of the former prime minister.

The ODM leader said his late brother had no choice but to calm the delegates by saying that Sifuna had the democratic right to oppose the party’s position.
“What I knew was that Raila Odinga was not happy with what Sifuna was doing. In particular, you can remember that just a few months before he died, Sifuna embarrassed Kakamega. He organized some youths who were acting like hooligans, shouting ‘Sifuna, Sifuna’ and shouting ‘one term, one term’ at him. Raila had no choice but to stand up and say that Sifuna had a democratic right. You could clearly see the shame he had at that time,” Oburu he said.
The Siaya senator revealed that he confronted Sifuna the next day and warned him about his habit of organizing youths to embarrass Raila.
According to Oburu, the Orange party has witnessed many leaders like Sifuna and there is nothing unique about the Nairobi senator that can worry him heading into the 2027 General Election.
“The next day, I answered Sifuna. I told him, ‘Do you think you are so important that you cannot be removed? We have seen many people like you in our political life, and we know how they end up.’ So nothing unique is happening now that has never happened before.

“I don’t see any unique qualities in you that are better than what we saw in others before. Why should I worry? Why should I lose sleep because of your speeches and actions? But what I knew for sure was that Raila was completely fed up with Sifuna,” he said.
Oburu went on to say that he would not accept the demands of the Nairobi senator, who has since led the ODM wing that opposes the current party leader.
“We are not supposed to go and flatter him. He is not the Pope. Even the Pope… people kneel like this.” [wanainama] before the Pope. I don’t want to be Pope. He is the general secretary of ODM. He can be removed like any other… like any other officer. We cannot have young people who do not have discipline. Sifuna called me mediocre, yet he still wants to be my secretary. How can I work with him?” he questioned.
