Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the pregnant wife of the former President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe, has been accused of attempted murder following a shooting incident in Johannesburg, South Africa.

According to police reports, Chatunga was involved in a confrontation on February 19 with a 23-year-old gardener at his home north of Johannesburg.
The dispute reportedly broke out after the gardener allegedly failed to report to work.
Chatunga and his bodyguard were detained following the incident.
Authorities found spent ammunition at the scene, although the gun used in the attack has not yet been recovered.
The police claimed that the first family failed to comply with the investigators in the matter by surrendering the weapon.
The farmer was shot and injured, and is recovering in hospital while the investigation continues.
What we know about Mugabe’s son’s court case
Chatunga appeared in court on Monday, February 23, where he was formally charged with attempted murder, according to the BBC.
Prosecutors said an altercation broke out inside Mugabe’s residence, and the victim was allegedly shot in the back while trying to flee, falling outside the gate.
In addition to attempted murder, The Guardian reported that Chatunga and his bodyguard are facing charges of obstruction of justice, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, violation of the Immigration Act for allegedly being in South Africa illegally, and theft.
Chatunga’s lawyer, Sinenhlanhla Mnguni, told reporters that his client is fine while still being detained.
The case has been adjourned until March 3, when a bail application is expected. The investigation of the incident is ongoing.
Reports indicate that he previously faced arrest, although details were not disclosed.
