They expressed concern after several people showed interest in running for various election positions under the umbrella of UDA in 2027.

Why should ODM join UDA?

Commenting on the ongoing debate, David Sankok claimed that various political parties were disbanded in the past to form one strong government party.

He mentioned the ANC party of the Assistant Prime Minister Stay Mudavadiwhich was dissolved in 2022 and joined the UDA despite the different opinions of its supporters.

“Just as we dissolved 14 political parties to form Jubilee, the ANC was also dissolved to join the UDA. The ODM party should be dissolved and join us in the UDA to strengthen our movement for a broad alliance,” he said.

According to Sankok, “An orange can fit in a wheelbarrow, but a wheelbarrow cannot fit in an orange.”

The politician’s proposal drew criticism from the Member of Parliament for Suba North Millie Odhiambowho indirectly referred to him as a joker.

“Is he kidding or not?” questioned Odhiambo, insisting that he does not support zoning.

Some Kenyans questioned the proposal, wondering how ODM, after more than two decades of fighting for democracy, could be dissolved and join a new party.

Who is responsible for the potential conflict between ODM and UDA?

Others accused UDA supporters of arrogance and causing a split with ODM’s Linda Ground team which has been supporting the broad coalition plan.

According to Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar is responsible for the conflict witnessed between the two parties.

“Hassan Omar is an inexperienced politician who served only one term as a senator and was quickly removed from the Wiper Democratic Movement party due to conflicted leadership. He is an agent of division and confusion, and his continuation as the general secretary of the UDA party will disrupt the party’s relationship with ODM,” he said.

Kaluma urged the UDA party to immediately stop Omar or remove him from that high position, claiming that he could jeopardize the great victory of the ODM-UDA coalition in the 2027 elections.
