  • The Siaya governor vowed to mobilize protests to demonstrate the failure of the Ruto government from June 24-26
  • Kapseret Member of Parliament criticized Orengo for his development record, accusing him of promoting “politics of poverty”

Nairobi – Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has attacked the governor of Siaya James Orengo about the protest organized by the Linda Mwananchi group.

On Sunday, April 19, Orengo announced that the renegade ODM faction would protest from June 24-26 to coincide with the anniversary of the anti-government protests led by Gen Z in June 2024.

Why will Linda Mwananchi hold a protest in June?

According to Orengo, Linda Mwananchi will use the protest to show the failure of the President’s administration William Ruto.

“We are tired of bad leadership. On June 24, 25 and 26 we will hold a series of protests that will make this country ungovernable. This has happened before, and we want to do it again. I don’t see President William Ruto coming in August 2027. We want this administration to end now,” Orengo said.

The governor of Siaya said that Linda Mwananchi’s team is not afraid of death and has planned to free the country from Ruto’s leadership.

“We are not afraid of prison. We are not afraid of death or fear itself. The time has come. The time to liberate this country is now,” the governor of Siaya said.

How did Oscar Sudi criticize James Orengo?

But in a Facebook post on Monday, April 20, Sudi accused Orengo of using organized protests to promote the politics of poverty.

According to Sudi, the veteran politician is not a reformer and has no record of progress.

Kapseret Member of Parliament challenged Orengo to ensure that his children participate in the protest organized by Linda Mwananchi’s team.

“Since I was born, I have seen Orengo in politics, but his politics are the politics of poverty. He is not a reformer, and he has no record of progress. Orengo has the heart and soul to lead people towards poverty… instead of leading Gen Z back to the streets, he should start with his own children,” Sudi said.

Union opposition, led by the former vice president Rigathi Gachaguayou had accused the Ruto government of being behind the ongoing oil crisis in the country.

But addressing journalists on Thursday, April 16, UDA General Secretary Hassan Omar defended the recent increase in fuel prices, saying the government had no choice but to do so.

The UDA official dismissed calls for mass protests on the issue, saying such protests are misguided because oil prices are largely influenced by international market forces.
