Nyandarua Senator, John Methu, has emerged to explain in detail his relationship with the President William Ruto following the debate that arose after his speech in the Ol Kalou area during the funeral of former Member of Parliament David Kiaraho.
Speaking in an interview with Citizen TV on Sunday, April 12, Methu emphasized that he has had a good relationship with President Ruto for a long time, especially since he was elected as a senator.
He clarified that his statements made by Ol Kalou did not intend to disparage the head of state but aimed to present the truth on behalf of the people.
“I have known President Ruto for a while, since I was elected. At that time I was one of his favorite MPs. I have visited many of his farms. He campaigned for me and I campaigned for him,” said Methu.
According to the analysis of TUKO.co.ke, Methu’s statement shows the ongoing division within the leaders of the Mt Kenya area, where some leaders elected on the government ticket have begun to publicly criticize the performance of the current administration.

Methu added that although he respects the President as the head of the country, the Commander-in-Chief and as a parent, he has no reason to fear him. He said that fear would make him unable to perform his duty as a responsible leader to the people.
“I respect him as President and as a parent his children are my age. It would be wrong to underestimate him, but it is also wrong to fear him, because if I fear him I will not be a good leader,” he added.
His statement came after a section of the public strongly criticized him, seeing his remarks as an insult to the institution of the presidency. However, Methu insisted that there was no intention to embarrass the President.
While at Ol Kalou last week, Methu publicly criticized the President, clearly saying that he respects him but does not fear him. He also urged the government to fulfill the promises it made to the people of Nyandarua, claiming that there have been major delays in the implementation of development projects.
“President William Samoei Ruto, I respect you but I am not afraid. Your true friends are those who tell you the truth. Our job as leaders is not to come here to applaud you, but to tell you the real situation on the ground,” he said.
According to information from TUKO.co.ke, some residents of Nyandarua have been complaining about the delay in road, water and agriculture projects despite promises made during the 2022 election campaign.
Methu’s call sparked a great debate, with some citizens asking him to apologize to the President.
However, he refused to do so, saying that he had no reason to apologize for telling the truth.
He emphasized that if there are people he should apologize to, then it is the residents of Ol Kalou for giving the President another platform to make new promises while the previous ones have not been implemented.
“The only place we have to apologize is to the people of Ol Kalou, because we gave the President another chance to make more promises. He continues to make promises even though the previous ones have not been implemented. It is not true to say I despised him, I did not have that intention at all,” he said.
On his part, President William Ruto responded to his critics, especially on the issue of receiving guests at the White House.
Speaking at the State House in Nairobi when he welcomed members of the Akorino sect, the President emphasized that he is the final authority on who should or should not enter the State House.
“Why are you asking questions about the White House? I am the head here. You are all welcome to the White House, and if they continue to complain, I will still welcome them and see what they will do,” said the President.
The statement came a few days after the former Vice President Rigathi Gachagua severely criticizing Akorino believers who visited the White House, accusing them of betraying Mount Kenya for their personal interests.
“For those Akorino who went to the White House, please speak for your guts, not on our behalf. You have joined the long list of traitors who betray their people to benefit themselves,” said Gachagua.
