Gachagua, who had previously warned against attempts to prevent him from attending, was initially not scheduled to speak, causing early concern among mourners and leaders present.

A short controversy also followed when he declined the initial invitation to address the meeting, but later took the stage after being persuaded by local leaders, including the governor of Nyandarua Kiarie Badilisha.

His speech changed the style of the event, when he started criticizing Ruto and his allies in the administration Kenya First.

How did Gachagua explain the conflict between him and Ruto?

During a meeting in Machakos county on Friday, April 10, Gachagua did not try to hide his satisfaction at facing the head of state.

Gachagua recounted the conflict, telling his supporters that he confronted the president directly and demanded respect when he visited the area.

Mentioning him Ruto as “Kasongo,” Gachagua painted a clear picture of the interaction, claiming that he asserted his authority as the chief politician in Mount Kenya.

“You saw Kasongo (President William Ruto’s nickname for opposition leaders) when he came there. I told him, this house has an old man called Riggy G, there is no nonsense here; don’t cause trouble here; when you come here, come slowly and respectfully. This house has an old man,” Gachagua said.

He went further, describing how he glared at Ruto and gave him a direct warning, claiming the President was confused.

“I looked him directly in the eyes when he was sitting. I told Kasongo; first he took water and drank, didn’t he? You all saw, didn’t he? This Kasongo, I called him; he drank 16 bottles of water, didn’t he? Should Kasongo be bothered or not? I told him, when you come to Mount Kenya, come with respect, don’t bring chaos here and don’t come to lie to us,” he joked, eliciting laughter and cheers from the crowd.
