Is it rare to give birth to four children at the same time?
What started as a surprise pregnancy turned into a very rare story: the birth of quadruplets in a heartbeat, something doctors say is extremely rare.
“Actually, I had decided to keep only my little child, but they came, and it’s a miracle because they were not expected to be there,” Adriana said while carrying one of the children, noting that they are all girls.
Adriana, who is now a mother of one boy and four girls, had an intrauterine device (IUD), which made the pregnancy a complete surprise.
The couple never thought they would receive so many children just two years after having their first child.
Why was Adriana worried about her pregnancy?
Adriana admitted that she was sometimes worried, as multiple pregnancies are often high-risk and lead to premature birth.
“I was like, ‘It’s impossible.’ My fiancé thought I was joking. Parenting does not run in my family, so this was a new experience. At the same time I was happy but I was also worried,” he added.
Adriana had just started her nursing studies at Del Mar College when she found out she was carrying four children.
Although she is currently focused on raising her five children, she says she plans to return to studies in the future, noting that nothing will stop her.
Adriana’s request to the public
Dr. Miguel de Leon at Corpus Christi Medical Center helped the couple through the journey, describing the birth of the children as a “one in a million” event.
“The possibility of a situation like this happening is very small. From the beginning, we did not know when they would come, and predicting their birth was a challenge because the care required is completely different,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the parents of five children are now asking for help from the community, citing the financial burden of raising so many young children.
“We want to give our children the best, but it’s difficult right now because I can’t work or do as much as I’d like. Every help is important,” Adriana said.
