On Wednesday, April 8, Hot 96 co-hosts Jeff Koinange and Patrick Igunza called him live on air to ask about his newest car.
“I bought a Range Rover,” he said.
Jeff asked about the year of manufacture while Igunza asked about the price.
Why did Maina Kageni buy a KSh 50m Range Rover?
“The 2026 system. It cost KSh 50 million,” Maina said.
The impressive amount surprised the two when they said it out loud.
Jeff almost used offensive words, but stopped himself when he asked Maina why he would give that much for the car.
“You know, Jeff, you only live once. But if you do it right, once is enough.”
“So you’re going to have a Range Rover and a BMW X6?” Jeff asked.
Then Maina explained why he bought the car.
“I love it so much. I woke up one day wishing for it.”
Jeff intervened, saying that Maina rarely drives.
“You have never been to Mombasa or Naivasha by car. What will you do with a Ksh 50 million car?” he asked.
“I’ll drive to work and back and go to lunch. Then go play golf,” Maina said, with Jeff responding by saying he’d like to be like him when he grows up.
Maina then turned to Igunza, who said Jeff was planning to buy him a nice bike for his birthday.
“Let him buy you a bike, and I’ll give you six months worth of fuel,” Maina said, as the two cheered.
Maina then shared more details about her new car, noting that she is a Vogue model.
Then Igunza jokingly asked Maina what she does for a living.
“I work at a radio station. If you talk to the CEO very well, you will be able to do these things, man,” he said.
