Where was Godfrey Osotsi attacked?
Wednesday, April 8, the governor of Siaya James Orengo gave a statement saying Osotsi was attacked at Java House, Western Mall.
Orengo described the incident as a coordinated effort to suppress public opinion. He called on the police to release CCTV footage of Java House, warning that the incident could incite ethnic conflict.
“The brutal dawn attack on Linda Mwananchi, the chief, and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi at Java House, Western Mall in Kisumu, is a bad example of cowardice. Make no mistake, this was not a random incident of violence. We want the police to immediately release the CCTV footage from Java House and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice without further delay. Planning this attack in the middle of Kisumu is a desperate and old-fashioned attempt to incite ethnic war between the Luo and The Luhyas, but we see through these dirty tactics of divide and rule!” Orengo said.
What did CCTV show in Godfrey Osotsi’s attack?
Now, CCTV footage has emerged clearly showing when suspected thugs beat up the popular Vihiga senator.

Video shared by NTV it showed youths storming Java House and started attacking the senator, who was sitting with an unidentified woman.
In the photos, a man wearing a black t-shirt and hat is seen attacking the senator who was dragging himself on the floor with punches and kicks.
He was joined by another suspect wearing a white hood as they beat the helpless senator.
In the four-minute clip, the two tried to drag the senator out, but the crew was able to save him.
Java House staff were seen surrounding the injured senator while begging the armed youths to spare his life.
How did Godfrey Osotsi respond to his removal from office?
The incident comes a few weeks after the Vihiga senator made it clear that he will not oppose the decision of members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to remove him from the position of deputy leader of the party.
The resolution was passed during the Special Delegates’ Meeting (SDC) held on Friday, March 27, where his removal was officially approved.
Osotsi is leaning towards the rebel wing within ODM, which opposes the current leader of the party, Siaya senator Oburu Oginga.
Responding to the action, Osotsi dismissed the meeting saying it was illegal but insisted that he would not seek legal action against the decision.
He pointed the finger at unnamed people from Western Kenya who he believes are positioning themselves to take over the position of deputy leader.
