Although the mass was largely peaceful, tension was evident, especially after Ruto and Gachagua arrive at the scene.

Nyandarua Senator Kaba Methu was the first speaker to cause a stir when he took the microphone to pay tribute to the late MP. He directly criticized the president, accusing him of abandoning Mount Kenya and making false promises every time he visits.

William Ruto Screams At Gachagua Who Claimed Mt Kenya Residents Escaped Him: “I’m Not Crazy”

Gachagua followed later, accusing the president of betraying Mount Kenya and telling him to forget about their support.

“You are my brother; I am asking you to bring peace to the Kikuyu community. When we elected you, you were not called Kamau, Njoroge; your name was William Kipchirchir Samoei Arap Ruto. So if you go to Nyanza, do not call us tribal people.

Gachagua went on to remind Ruto that it will be a difficult task to regain the support of Mt Kenya voters, stressing that they have fully accepted him as their leader after his removal from power through the impeachment motion.

“You removed me from office, but it will be very difficult to separate me from these people. It will be like trying to cut down a Mugumu tree with a razor. And I want to tell Kimani Ichungwah and other young leaders from this area to stop insulting and nonsense,” said the former Deputy President.

Appearing annoyed by the political attacks aimed at him, Ruto responded strongly when he stood up to address the mourners.

He dismissed the criticism as “unnecessary noise and drama” that has no place in Kenyan politics, saying voters will choose leaders based on their record rather than slogans like “wantam”.

Rigathi Gachagua Reminds William Ruto of What He Warned About Ichung’wah: “This Community Has Rejected You”

He specifically objected to Gachagua’s warning that Mt Kenya voters have rejected him and have vowed to make him a one-term president.

He ignored the warning, promising to change the situation to the detriment of those who ignore him in local politics.

“It’s okay. I will meet you here ahead. I understand these things in Kenya. We will not allow any leader to divide this country.

“Tribal people, you have no place in the Republic of Kenya and I am not a drunkard, no one should bring his war against me and my mountain people,” Ruto replied.

The President dismissed Gachagua’s attacks targeting Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichungwah and other young leaders who support the government.

“I want to tell the young leaders, don’t be intimidated by anyone and don’t worship any human being,” he said.

He also mocked the leader of the DCP party by asking the mourners not to shout at him while he was addressing him.

“I am not asked for permission anywhere… I am the president of Kenya… I will go anywhere in the Republic of Kenya without anyone’s permission,” Ruto replied.

When he realized that he had spent a lot of time answering his critics instead of honoring the deceased and condoling the bereaved family, Ruto changed course and apologized to the mourners.
