Ruto had publicly accused his former deputy, Rigathi Gachaguafor forging the will of his late brother, the former governor of Nyeri county, Nderitu Gachagua, and depriving his family of inheritance, thereby keeping his wife and children in poverty.

Following the allegations, Nderitu’s wife, Margaret Nyokabi, and four children wrote to Ruto asking him to intervene to recover their allegedly lost property.

Why did the Gachagua family ignore Ruto’s claims?

The former vice president criticized Nyokabi for reviewing an issue that had been successfully resolved in court.

The family’s spokesperson, Kibara Gachagua, dismissed the allegations of forgery, saying that the will was prepared several months before Nderitu’s death in 2027.

He claimed that the recent allegations had political reasons to undermine Rigathi’s popularity in the Mt Kenya region.

“When the news came out, I went back to the will, and the accusations were completely meaningless. These women got everything from the will; in fact, the Nderitu family got a lot of wealth, and they never complained. My thoughts were that the information was given to Ruto so that he could use it to reduce my brother’s popularity in Mount Kenya,” Kibara said.

The will was executed by the deceased on February 17, a week before Nderitu’s death.

He continues to live in Karen’s house given to him by the deceased.

Nderitu’s second wife inherited two houses in Karen, Nyeri, and was given title deeds as directed by the will. She has been owning the properties since her husband’s death.

The property managers also dismissed claims that properties such as Vipingo Beach Resort, Olive Gardens, and Queensgate were undervalued.

They said that the executors collaborated with the beneficiaries to sell the properties for KSh 250 million, KSh 412 million, and KSh 590 million, respectively. Another property, Kiangwachi Property, was pre-sold for KSh 25 million.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s house called Lang’ata View was not sold, and the beneficiaries have full ownership rights in relation to their properties.
