Raila died in India on 15 October 2025, where he had gone to seek medical treatment. He collapsed after his morning walk.

His brother, Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga, revealed that Raila was suffering from a blood clot in his head that required special treatment in India after doctors in Kenya and Dubai gave conflicting opinions.

Oburu explained that doctors in Nairobi used strong steroids to treat the condition, which made Raila withdraw from public activities. Finally, the President William Ruto intervened by getting him a private plane to transfer him to Mumbai.

How much money did Raila Odinga give to his employees?

In an interview on The People’s Bench podcast, Odhiambo recounted his last moments with his boss in the office.

“The week Baba left, I was carrying his bag. When we got to the elevator, he (touching his bag) asked me if I had a key. Then he told me to stand there in the elevator, he opened the bag and gave me 100,000 shillings. He took out 100,000 shillings and told me to give it to everyone who was there. And he told me in the Luo language. He took the money and spit on it as if to bless it. That was his time finally being in the office. We were still in the elevator, someone was still holding the door open. And the old man didn’t come back,” he said.
