The tragic incident happened on Sunday, March 29, when the river was overflowing following heavy rains in the North Rift region.

A search operation was launched, with efforts aimed at recovering his body from the rocky part of the river.

A few days after the tragic discovery, his sister, Linet Osoro, wrote a touching message on Facebook, expressing her pain and the sacrifice she made for her younger brother.

“Douglas, I have been a close sister throughout your life. I have seen you grow into a diligent and honorable person. I promised myself I would support you until you finish your studies. I have struggled in this city to make sure you have a good life. I always called you my investment. Yes, I chose to invest in my brothers because I believed it was the best decision,” he wrote.

What did Ayienda’s sister say after her death?

The grieving sister expressed her deep sorrow, saying she had hoped to see Douglas finish his education, noting that he was already in the third year.

“All my efforts now seem wasted. You went to school in good health. You went to the waterfall and drowned in it. You stayed in the water for two days, and we returned your body to Kisii. Your personal belongings, including clothes and books, will be brought by your classmates,” he added.

Linet said the loss has greatly affected the family, expressing sadness while holding on to the hope of meeting him again after the resurrection.

Meanwhile, the family is preparing to bury Douglas at their home in Kisii. The funeral is scheduled for Friday, April 10, at Nyanguru Primary School grounds.

Moi University students are warned against visiting nearby waterfalls

In a related development, students at Moi University have been warned against visiting Kesses Falls following the incident and the ongoing rains.

In an internal memo seen by TUKO.co.ke, the academic affairs representative of Moi University Students Organization (MUSO) at the School of Education, Emmanuel Waswa, warned that the area has become very dangerous.

“The area has become very dangerous due to slippery surfaces, strong water currents, and unpredictable environmental conditions. All students are strongly advised to avoid unnecessary visits to Kesses Falls and other dangerous areas during this period,” said Waswa.
