Gachagua warned Nyandarua Women’s Advocate, Faith Wairimu Gitau, against efforts to prevent opposition leaders from attending the event, stressing that he cannot be prevented from attending an event held in his home area.
The former Vice President insisted that President Ruto is free to attend in the area but he should only attend as a guest.
Gachagua also promised to stay in the area until the day of the funeral, stressing that no one will dare to stop him from attending the funeral.
According to Gachagua, Ruto rushed him to office but he cannot repeat that in his political area.
“Nyandarua is our home. This man Ruto kicked us out of office, he can’t kick us out of office and then kick us out of our home… We can’t miss [kuhudhuria] home party. If you come to the funeral of Ol Kalou Member of Parliament, Kiaraho, come with respect, that is Nyandarua, Mau Mau headquarters, home of people like Dedan Kimathi. Don’t try, you’re a stranger.”
How David Kiaraho’s death will lead to renewed political conflict between Ruto and Gachagua
As previously reported, political analysts said Kiaraho’s death could lead to one of the most significant contests in Mount Kenya in recent years, setting the stage for a by-election that could ultimately decide who leads the region politically between Ruto or his former deputy.
President Ruto mourned the death of the former leader of Ol Kalou as a loyal ally and leader focused on development.
Before his death, Kiaraho was fully involved with the President’s campaign, helping him on important issues including supporting the opposition to Gachagua in October 2024 and actively participating in Ruto’s 2027 presidential campaign.
Opposing that removed Gachagua from office and divided the political leadership of Mount Kenya in the middle. Since then, both sides have been in a fierce struggle to get the support of the grassroots communities.
It is in this context that Kiaraho’s death gains more political significance. The position may now be the front line in the leadership struggle between the President and his former vice president.
