KPA Executive Director William Ruto Involved In Accident With Family, Loses His Daughter

The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has announced that its CEO, Capt William Rutohas been involved in a road accident.

According to a statement on Saturday, April 4, KPA said that the accident happened on Friday.

The authority expressed deep sadness over the incident, which happened when Ruto was traveling with his family in Taita Taveta.

“We are deeply saddened to announce that our Chief Executive Officer, Captain William K. Ruto, was involved in a fatal road accident yesterday evening while traveling with his family,” the statement said.

KPA confirmed that Ruto’s daughter did not survive the accident.

The authority expressed its thoughts and condolences to the CEO and his family at this time of great sorrow.

Officials said Ruto and his family are all in good condition and receiving close medical attention.

The statement added:

“We wish them a speedy and full recovery.”

KPA noted that it is cooperating with the authorities to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.

“We will continue to provide updates as appropriate and as more information becomes available,” it said.

The authority requested privacy, saying:

“We respectfully ask for the family’s privacy at this difficult time.”

KPA also thanked Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir and Taita Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime for their prompt support.

Ruto was appointed KPA boss for a three-year term in 2023, ending a three-year dispute that had delayed the recruitment process.

Ruto emerged as the top candidate following interviews conducted by the KPA board, beating 75 other applicants who had applied for the position.
