900 GOLFERS ENLIST FOR WEEK-LONG  CAPTAIN’S PRIZE AT RUIRU SPORTS CLUB

Over 900 players are set to converge at the pristine Ruiru Sports Club for this year’s Captain’s Prize set to tee off on Monday 6th April to Sunday 12th April 2026.

More than a single tournament, the Captain’s Prize has grown into a full weeklong golf festival, featuring themed competitions, community-focused events and entertainment, culminating in Saturday’s main Captain’s Prize showdown.

The 2026 edition tees off at a particularly significant moment for the club, coming just after the successful completion of major fairway and greens upgrades under the leadership of Club Captain Justus Mathenge, delivering improved playability and an enhanced golfer experience.

“We are excited to welcome golfers from across the country for a week that celebrates every part of the game, from juniors and seniors to caddies, staff, amateurs and professionals,” said Captain Mathenge. “With the upgrades to our fairways and greens, the course is in excellent condition and ready for a truly memorable Captain’s Prize week.”

The club has lined up a vibrant schedule designed to keep the course and clubhouse buzzing from Monday through Sunday.

The week begins on Monday 6th April with a special clergy and friends’ tournament to officially launch the festivities.

On Tuesday, a dedicated seniors tournament takes centre stage, celebrating experience, camaraderie and competitive spirit, a signature midweek highlight as caddies and club employees compete in their own tournament, recognising the teams behind the scenes who keep the club running.

A social and celebratory captain’s club night, is expected to take place on Thursday, bringing members and guests together.

On Friday, a special-format tournament has been organized featuring professionals and amateurs, plus a dynamic Gen X and Gen Z golf segment.

The week’s headline competition, the captain’s prize will take place on Saturday with top participation expected on the day.

The festival closes with a junior golf day, highlighting the future of the sport and the club’s commitment to developing young talent.
