William Ruto vows to visit Nyeri without fear despite hostility with Gachagua: “I’m not stopping”

Speaking in Nyeri at a church service on Thursday, April 2, the president seemed to indirectly answer his former deputy, Rigathi Gachaguawho had challenged him to visit Mount Kenya and insulted him.

Why William Ruto will not leave Mount Kenya

Ruto said he is a friend of Mount Kenya and that he will visit them whenever he sees fit without waiting for anyone’s permission.

In particular, the president noted that he has a permanent relationship with the people of Nyeri that he built long before working with Gachagua, who is also from Nyeri.

He said that no one has ever visited Nyeri more than him, adding that no politician will instruct him on how to cooperate with the people.

“I have a relationship with the people of Nyeri, and it didn’t start yesterday. I have been here, and no Kenyan leader has ever visited Nyeri more times than me. All those who claim now want to compete with me, they don’t even know where the church or the road is,” said Ruto.

Indicating to reduce his severity, the president said he will not engage in insults against his opponents, stressing that he will focus on serving Kenyans.

Regarding Nyeri, he said he will return because there are national projects being implemented there.

“He who likes insults should be tried with insults. Those who like drama will be tried with drama, and someone who likes work like me will be judged by the work he has done. They can call me Must Go or Kasongo, but I will face them soon. Do they think they can make a little noise to make me leave the people who made me President? Do I look like a madman?” he said.

Gachagua had earlier announced that he would prevent Ruto from getting any votes in Mt Kenya.

Since then, Gachagua has repeatedly attacked Ruto, accusing him of betraying Mount Kenya by allowing the process to remove him from power to continue.

Speaking to supporters in Kirinyaga on March 28, Gachagua promised to ensure that Ruto does not get any support from the region.

He criticized the president for describing him as a person with ethnic poison, noting that he supported Ruto despite their ethnic differences.

Gachagua vowed to campaign against Ruto in Mount Kenya, challenging him to get even 5 percent of the vote.

He emphasized that when the community supported Ruto, they did so knowing he was a Kalenjin and not a Kikuyu, but now they feel humiliated by being called tribal.
