Speaking at the funeral in Kirinyaga, the former national leader referred to the apathy of the people of Mount Kenya towards the current government, noting that they did not heed his call in 2022.
He blamed religious leaders, whom he accused of misusing their influence to mislead the public.
Speaking in the Kikuyu language, the former president noted that the men and women of the altar were involved in the bad political choices that the people made.
He encouraged them to stay away from politics and focus on the spiritual formation of their believers.
“I am humbly asking the religious leaders, with great respect, because your contribution was great in misleading our people to the wrong place. Please do not mislead people again. They want you to lead them on their spiritual journey and towards the Kingdom of God. Leave politics to those who are responsible and who should deal with issues affecting the country,” he said.
At the same time, Uhuru urged Mt Kenya voters and Kenyans in general to learn from their mistakes and make informed decisions in the future.
According to him, the country is in a very bad state because the voters did not listen to his advice.
Uhuru warned that the current political situation will repeat itself if voters do not listen to those who know better. At the same time, he warned them against following politicians blindly, saying they should investigate those who come to them before deciding to vote.
“I want to ask you to be patient, unite and be one. According to what I hear from the people, do not change that, hold your position firmly. I am not looking for any seat, so when you vote I will be at home, I will not have a problem. But if you make mistakes, then it will be your own problem. It is important to listen to your leaders, not politicians. Politicians will lie to you with sweet words. I warned you, and you continued not to listen to advice,” he said.
