Kirinyaga: Difathas village in Mwea Mashariki sub-county has been engulfed in mourning after a couple lost their lives while returning from the funeral of their relative, former senator Daniel Karaba.

How did the Kirinyaga couple die?
According to the report Citizen TVwitnesses reported that the couple was riding a motorcycle when a car trying to pass a truck hit them.
The car involved in the accident was carrying five adults and two children and was reportedly on its way to Nairobi from Meru after attending another funeral.
“The collision threw Felister off the road, while Michael remained stuck under the motorcycle. Both died on the spot,” witnesses claimed.
The family of the couple expressed their grief after identifying the bodies.
“It’s a double tragedy. We just buried Karaba, and now we’re mourning two other people. It’s too much,” said Martin Mwaura, a family member.
One resident, Joseph Mwangi, expressed concern about the increase in accidents on the road.
He narrated an incident where a schoolboy was killed and urged the authorities to take necessary measures to reduce the rate of road accidents.
The car and the motorcycle were towed to the Wanguru Police Station while the investigation continues.
When did Daniel Karaba die?
Meanwhile, Karaba died on March 23 at the age of 78.
Several leaders hailed him as a respected politician who dedicated his life to serve the nation in various sectors, including education.
He built a solid legacy as a teacher and principal. He served as the chairman of the Kenya Secondary School Principals Association, then became the Member of Parliament for Kirinyaga Central for two terms and later a senator.
His funeral was attended by several politicians, including the retired president Uhuru Kenyatta and former attorney general Justin Muturi.
“Today in Kirinyaga, we walked with the family of former senator Daniel Karaba in one of the most difficult times in life, burying a man whose warmth, humility, and quiet strength made him easily loved and unforgettable. He had a way of bringing people together, not by force, but by his character. Even in his last journey, that spirit of unity was evident,” said Muturi.

15 people died in a road accident in Nyeri
Elsewhere, 15 people died while several others were injured in a road accident near Dedan Kimathi University of Technology in Nyeri.
President William Ruto he apologized to the families affected by the tragic accident, assuring them of the government’s full support.
Other leaders called for caution and high level of care on the roads to save human lives and encouraged the authorities to improve infrastructure and road markings.
