In his speech, Uhuru Kenyatta he urged Kenyans to be careful against politicians with “sweet lips” and baseless promises, apparently targeting President William Ruto.
He urged Kenyans to consider the qualities of leadership in those running for office, saying that he is “listening to the grassroots” from his home in Ichaweri village.
“I told you not to be fooled by the sweet tongues and words of politicians… I told you that… Listen to leaders, leaders, not politicians. I hear other people say they listen to the grassroots. I am in Ichaweri and I also listen to the grassroots and it speaks of unity,” he said in the Kikuyu language.
Uhuru’s statements are similar to Gachagua’s method of “listening to the grassroots”, represented by the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) logo with a hand placed on the ear and the slogan Skiza Kenyansmeaning listen to Kenyans.
