Kioko, who rose to fame through the Churchill Show, had warned that he would stage a protest outside the county seat.
Speaking on Friday, March 27, at a press conference, Kioko invited journalists, contractors, and suppliers to raise concerns about the delay in payment by the county government.
He also asked his fellow distributors to stand firm and not accept pressure.
Why did Sammy Kioko protest?
Several contractors backed his claims, alleging threats and failure to settle pending bills.
The situation escalated when people reportedly disrupted the press conference, forcing those present to flee.
Kioko then announced plans to camp outside the county offices if the issue remained unresolved.
He gave a deadline to the Governor Wavinya Ndetidemanding payment within the stipulated time. Kioko, along with his sister, claim they are owed KSh 19 million for distributing uniforms through the county tender.
On the eve of the protest, the county government indicated that Kioko was not aware of the contract.
“We have a plan to settle unpaid bills,” a county official said.
However, Kioko dismissed the information stating that he will go to the county offices.
“There’s nothing stopping us from coming tomorrow. We’ve heard these stories before.”
Were Sammy Kioko and Tom Daktari arrested?
On Tuesday, March 31, Kioko shared an update saying that the county had sent officers to their buildings.
“The inspector has been sent to scare people; make sure you come wearing those uniforms. Threats will not work!”

Kioko’s friends, Nasra Yusuff and Tom, came out to support him. Shortly after, Nasra claimed that Kioko was assaulted and detained.
“He has been beaten by county troopers and arrested. This represents the highest level of indifference shown against people demanding their pay.”
In a follow-up, Nasra claimed that Tom was also detained.
The comedian then posted a video showing Kioko being detained.
The video shows him walking towards the entrance of the county offices while a group of men stop him.
Kioko remained unbowed as he continued to move towards the gate. Suddenly, a masked man grabbed him from behind and dragged him violently.
Kioko collapsed during the noise before the video ended abruptly. It is unclear if the men were county employees or police.
However, a uniformed police officer just stood there watching.
Shocked Kenyans responded to the video by saying:
pat_aka_phoebe: “We need to do something.”
glow_skin.254: “God and mercy.”
_karagai: “Like seriously!”
dennoh_teyla_ke: “Pride comes before a fall.”

He claimed that the amount is small compared to KSh 19 million owed. Kioko described the payment as an intimidation tactic and undermined his wishes.
