The meeting is taking place in an environment of leadership tension that is boiling within the Orange party.
Rival factions have been at odds over the control and direction of the party towards the 2027 General Election, with one faction linked to Siaya senator Oburu Oginga under the slogan of Linda Ground, and the other being supported by the secretary general of ODM Edwin Sifuna under the motto of Linda Mwananchi.
On Friday, March 27, delegates started arriving at the meeting area early in the morning, signaling what appears to be a decision-making time for the party.
In a move that has quickly attracted attention at the venue as well as online, ODM sent teams of youth to distribute gift packs to members who arrived early.
The packages, which appeared to contain party-branded products, were distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Political analyst and ODM supporter Gabriel Oguda shared a video showing the distribution exercise in the assembly area.
In his post, he indicated that the gifts were coordinated by a team of young people who were part of the party’s mobilization efforts.
“If you arrive early, you get your gift hamper courtesy of our GenZ team on site. The password is Chama Kubwa. WE ARE OBURU,” Oguda wrote, showing the enthusiasm at the scene.
