Kitutu Masaba Member of Parliament, Sylvanus Osoro, explained that the trip clashed with the president’s schedule, causing the House to change the schedule.

In a new statement on Facebook on Wednesday afternoon, March 25, the congressman announced that the president would visit one week later from the date of the appointment.

“Gusii afternoon news? Due to the conflict of other official duties, we want to inform you that the planned visit of the President to Gusii has been moved forward by one week. We will share the new schedule tomorrow. I apologize for any inconvenience caused,” he said.

Gusii is one of the areas in Western Kenya that the president is looking for when he wants to be re-elected in the 2027 general election.

Why William Ruto has decided to focus his attention on Western Kenya

The President was scheduled to launch development projects in the area, just a few days after visiting the four counties of Luo Nyanza, Homa Bay, Kisumu, Migori, and Siaya, where he launched projects and promised more.

He seems to have shifted focus from the Mt Kenya area, which played a key role in his victory in the 2022 election, and helped him win the presidency against the late Raila Odingawho at that time was supported by the government.

Of the 7.1 million votes that gave Ruto victory, 3.5 million came from Mount Kenya.

But following his dispute with the former deputy Rigathi GachaguaRuto seemed to distance himself from Mount Kenya while embracing other areas.

In Raila’s final days, Ruto reconciled with him despite their long-standing political rivalry.

Political analysts claimed that the president was targeting Raila’s cultural base, given the influence he had during his peak years.

How William Ruto plans strategies to run again in the 2027 election

Meanwhile, the 2027 White House race looks interesting, as emerging groups seek to remove mainstream politicians from the power equation.

For decades, elections have been dominated by people from the post-independence era such as Raila, Ruto, Kalonzo Musyoka, Stay Mudavadiand Uhuru Kenyatta, among others.

Following the rebellion of Gen Z in 2024, there is a strong possibility that the established order could be disrupted, with a large number of young people promising to change the political landscape.

Recognizing this change, the current president seemed to be putting himself in a position of alliance with Raila in an effort to secure his second and final term.

With the voices of the youth strongly opposing another term for Ruto, the president seemed intent on using Raila’s political influence and support base to strengthen his re-election campaign, offering in return to support Raila in the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship campaign and include ODM officials in the Cabinet.
