Mary Claire, a 24-year-old woman, who was attacked with acid, is still receiving treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

Claire, a singer in one of the Sabbath Choirs in Nairobi, was returning home from work when the attack happened.
The man who threw the acid on her, known as Lukas Ochieng’, allegedly confessed that he was sent to do the brutal act by Claire’s ex-boyfriend. Both suspects have since been arrested.
What did Mary Claire say after the acid attack?
The former governor of Nairobi Mike Sonkowho has been campaigning against sexual violence, visited the girl in the hospital on Tuesday, March 24.
Sonko promised to pay all his hospital bills and give whatever he needs to regain his health and rebuild his life.
He also vowed to ask his lawyers to follow up on the case to make sure Claire gets justice for the attack.
“We will help you. I planned the arrest of the person responsible; you will get justice. These doctors are the best, they have helped in the worst situations. You will regain your beauty,” said Sonko.
Mary said she was feeling good and had even enjoyed a good night’s rest.
He thanked the politician for his support since the attack and expressed hope for a full recovery.
“He’ll get his sight back in time. It’s an ongoing process. We’re washing it and applying medicine. It may take a while, but he’ll get his sight back,” he shared.
Claire also confirmed that her estranged boyfriend is working with the NIS, and Sonko confirmed that he is not above the law.

“Even if it means sending him out of the country for treatment, we will do it to make sure he fully recovers. What was done to him was cruel, inhuman and unacceptable. I stood with him, comforted him, and assured him that he is not alone. We will fight for him, and we will make sure that justice is done. If the relationship does not work, leave. There is no excuse for someone to ruin a life,” he said.
How was Claire’s ex-boyfriend caught?
In related news, TUKO.co.ke reported that Elvis Opiyo was arrested on Sunday, March 22, following public outrage over Claire’s assault.
Sonko’s arrest came after Sonko offered a reward of KSh 50,000 to anyone who would give information about his arrest.
A few hours later, an unnamed source revealed that a mutual friend of the victim and Opiyo tricked him into traveling from Oyugis to Nairobi, claiming that Claire wanted to talk to him.
He arrived at the agreed area, where Sonko had arranged for the police from Kibera to arrest him and put him in custody.
