“I didn’t see my clothes melting. All I saw were Clare’s clothes. The next thing I heard was ‘Sarah, help me, I’m dying. Give me water,'” Clare’s friend, Sarah Watiri, who also suffered injuries, recounted.

The suspect was pressed by the citizens while trying to run away. Out of anger and pain, the mob attacked him, and beat him until it was reported that he confessed to being sent by Clare’s ex-boyfriend.

An eyewitness claimed that amid the commotion, Ochieng’s phone rang, and the mob forced him to put it on speaker.

The caller asked, “Are you done?” Then he called it on the street.

The police later intervened and took the attacker and detained him at the Kibera Police Station.

“Clare is currently in critical condition at KNH. Sadly, she had reported death threats last November, but no action was taken. We will cooperate with the authorities to ensure justice is done. All those involved must be held accountable,” he said.

The former governor offered a reward of KSh 50,000 for information that will enable the arrest of the suspect of the brutal act.

Efforts to get Clare’s family to comment on the incident were unsuccessful.

Has the prime suspect in the Clare attack been caught?

Meanwhile, a video circulating online showed the main suspect, a suspect from another choir group, being arrested masked and on a motorcycle.

He refused to answer the questions of the officers who arrested him despite trying to get his details.

“Take off the mask and hat. What’s your name?” they asked repeatedly. “Why can’t we go to the station?” he answered without bothering.

However, TUKO.co.ke could not independently confirm whether the man arrested was Clare’s ex-boyfriend.
