DCI Gives Information About Raphael Tuju’s Whereabouts After He Was Reported Missing

Nairobi – The Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has launched an investigation into the disappearance of the former minister Raphael Tuju and his driver.

In a statement on Sunday, March 22, DCI confirmed that Tuju’s phone was switched off a few hours after she disappeared.

When was Raphael Tuju reported missing?

The DCI said that a security guard at Miotoni Lane found Tuju’s car with hazard lights on and reported the incident to the Karen Police Station, prompting officers to visit the scene.

“Tuju was reported missing by his family on Saturday, March 22. His car was found abandoned along Miotoni Lane in Karen, with hazard lights on. A security guard at a nearby establishment informed officers of the Karen Police Station. The scene was later attended by Crime Scene Investigators and the vehicle was taken to the Kareni Police Station for further investigation.”

According to the DCI, a special team has been assembled and is using all available resources to find Tuju and his driver.

“Efforts to find Tuju were unsuccessful as his phone remains switched off. A special team has been sent to deal with the case and is working in coordination with all other important government agencies to determine his whereabouts. The investigative team is also using all available resources and investigation methods to determine the circumstances surrounding his disappearance,” DCI said.

However, the DCI disclosed that the investigative team has been denied access to Tuju’s residence near Mwitu Drive in Karen.

“While progress is being made, the DCI notes that an attempt by investigators to reach Tuju’s residence along Mwitu Drive was rejected by the family. We ask for full cooperation from all parties, including unrestricted access to the relevant areas and the prompt provision of information, for a quick and comprehensive solution,” the statement read.

In the statement, the DCI urged any Kenyan who may have seen Tuju or any suspicious activity along Miotoni Road on Saturday, March 21, to report to the nearest police station.

What Raphael Tuju’s family said about his disappearance

According to the family, the former minister was scheduled to be interviewed in Ramogi at 7pm on the same day he disappeared but he did not return home.

Before his disappearance, Tuju had given a report to the police on Saturday that he was followed on Friday, March 20, by a white Land Cruiser 70-series car without a number plate. He issued the report under OB 21/21/03/2026.
