Faith Odhiambo Says She Met Her Husband In Church, She Thanks Her Friends For Making That Love Succeed

The former president of the Kenya Bar Association, Faith Odhiambo, has opened up about how she met her husband, John Lawrence.

Social media users recently got an opportunity to see the side of her personal life after pictures of her and her husband went viral online.

In an exclusive interview, the couple opened up about their love story and how they balance their high-profile careers while maintaining a strong marriage.

How did Faith Odhiambo meet her husband?

Speaking in an interview with Parents Magazine, Faith explained how they met despite attending the same church for two years without meeting.

“It was through friends. They felt that we would get along. We used to go to the same church, but we never met. He was in the choir, I was in Sunday school. Sometimes people think I’m a person who likes to mix with many people, but that’s not the case. I stay with my close friends. He’s a more outgoing person; you’ll find him with a group of people laughing out loud, which is not my type,” he said.

According to Faith, she did not like her husband when they met for the first time, and she also explained what came to attract her later.

“He had been in the church for two years, with me since my youth. Two friends suggested that we meet. We met with two friends. At the first meeting, I didn’t like him very much. He was nervous, but I saw that he was not suitable for me. At that time I was a quick judge and aloof. My friend said that we should be lovers, but I refused because I saw that he is very cheerful and I like calmness,” he added.

Faith said they continued to go out together several times, but what impressed her the most was her sincere faith in God, which made her see how much he would care for her.

“I also didn’t want to marry a lawyer. I had decided that clearly. But he made a place for himself in my heart. He looks after the little things. He is a person who supports me a lot. He has been my cheerleader 100 percent. He used to help me prepare for meetings and protect me every time, and he is someone who is always there,” he said.

Faith was awarded the Best Lawyer of the Year 2024 award by the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ Kenya) for her commitment to human rights and the rule of law.

In his speech to receive the award, he gave it to the collective determination of legal professionals and promised to continue to defend the independence of the courts and ethical governance.

The award showed his leadership in a year that was challenging for Kenya’s democracy, surrounded by political turmoil and suppression of civil rights.
