Moses Rengwara lost his life while trying to cross the flooded Muhenda River in the morning on his way to the farm. The strong current of water overpowered him and carried him away, leaving his family in deep sorrow.

The deceased was living alone in Muhenda Village, Kirosa District, Morogoro Region, and there were no close relatives present to handle his funeral immediately.

Councilor Ibrahim Magongo, who confirmed the sad incident, said the local authorities asked permission from the family before proceeding with funeral arrangements.

When was Rengwara’s body found?

“On Friday, March 13, we had a major flood, and by the next day, five houses had been completely destroyed, while about 30 others remained unburnt. After rescue operations, we found out that one person had died as a result of the flood, known as Rengwara.

While crossing the river, he apparently slipped and fell into the water, which washed his body a short distance away. On Sunday, March 15, residents who were heading to the countryside discovered the body,” he said.

The villagers immediately informed the local leaders and elders, who arrived at the area to identify the body, which was badly damaged due to water.

Recognition was difficult due to his physical condition, but a woman known as Zuchu recognized him as someone who was actively participating in community activities.
