Ruto was speaking in Chwele, Bungoma county, on Tuesday, March 17, when he angrily responded to his former deputy, Rigathi Gachaguawho claimed to look malnourished.

Why did Ruto lose weight?

Although the president made some inappropriate remarks, he explained that he lost weight so that he could focus on providing services to the people of the country.

How did Matiang’i answer Ruto?

After the remarks, Matiang’i, very angry, wondered why Ruto indirectly targeted him in his response.

Matiang’i, the deputy leader of Jubilee and said to be running for the presidency in 2027, insisted that he respects the institution of the presidency and will not go as far as insulting senior leaders.

“I don’t understand why you are bothered by the way I eat. I don’t eat at your house and I don’t ask for food from your brothers. I only eat bananas from Kisii. We have great respect for the leadership of this country and that’s why I didn’t insult you. We want to maintain the standards set by previous presidents, and those are the behaviors we want from office leaders,” he said.

He warned Ruto against discussing consumption issues when the country is facing major challenges, including corruption in the health sector.

Matiang’i made these statements during the official opening of the Jubilee party headquarters in Narok county, Narok town.
