An eight-year-old boy from Kipsitet area, Kericho County on Monday drowned in a local stream as he attempted to cross to the other side.
Allan Kiprono Ruto is said to have drowned at the same point where recently three people travelling on a motorbike perished when they fell in to the stream while crossing.
Kericho Woman Representative Beatrice Kemei, speaking while condoling the affected family at their home described the bridge as a ‘death trap’.” I pray to God to grant the grieving family strength and fortitude to bear this painful loss,” she said.
“As leaders, we must rise to the occasion to the concerns of the people and prioritize the issues that affect them most,” she said adding that local communities understood their main challenges and their voices must therefore guide development priorities.
“We shall engage the department of Roads and Infrastructure to urgently look into the situation of the bridge and others across the County so that necessary action can be taken to prevent further loss of lives,” she assured.
Kemei urged Kericho residents to be careful while crossing waterways as heavy rains continue to pound the region.
