George Were: Widow of Pilot Who Died in Crash Introduces Relatives He Taught

  • George Were was a famous military pilot who boasted 4000 flying hours in a career spanning decades
  • Were and his beloved wife were blessed with two children, identified as Joseph and Stacy, but they were not the only ones the loving couple raised
  • The couple also raised five other children, educated them to get degrees, and now have the best jobs in different countries.

His late wife Captain George Were, who died together with Emurua Member of Parliament Dikir Johana Ng’eno, has touched hearts after showing their relatives who educated them and now have good jobs.

Were, who served in the army and boasted 4000 flying hours, was the pilot of the helicopter that crashed and killed six people.

After working for many years, Were was only two months away from retirement, and although he is now dead, his legacy lives on in his children and those of the relatives he helped raise.

“This is Brian; he lived with us, and he is Jenny’s son. If you knew Were’s younger sister, she died, and she is a teacher and nurse. This is Christine, my sister’s son; she also lived with us and is a fisheries officer in Homa Bay. This is Stephanie; she lived with us and is now a teacher in Ruaraka,” said Were’s wife proudly.

Did Kenyans relate to Were’s good deeds?

“You can see the number of degrees George gave. This is Tanya, a PhD student in Spain but married in Chile; she came especially to bury her father. When she met the Chilean, she brought him to her father. This is Brian, the son of the family, a fifth-year student at the University of Nairobi,” he revealed.

Many people who watched the video were impressed and even remembered their own mothers who helped relatives from one step to another.

“That’s how we were raised. Children in the family are the children of a capable parent. Mrs. George needs to take a lot of credit. When the wife refuses, it becomes a headache. God bless the family,” said Hez Mulinge.

Good Samaritans raise KSh 10 million for the children of Were

In a different story, good people came forward to educate the two children of Captain George Were, who died together with MP Johana Ng’eno in a fatal helicopter accident.

According to the funeral committee, Were’s funeral was postponed until all his family members returned from abroad, according to the funeral committee.
